GP FARRIER SERVICE & SUPPLY

We service the greater Grande Prairie Area but also willing to come to different Cities that have a hard time to get a farrier and provide Service consistently every 6 weeks ALL Year around !

Q: What Cities, Towns etc. you will go to ( besides Grande Prairie )?
A: All Areas who need a consistent Farrier Service they can count on. We currently have in mind Ft. McMurray, Grande Cache, High Prairie, Peace River, Fort Nelson, Dawson Creek and Fort St. John. But we are not limited to those areas. Call us if you want us to come to your area.

Q: Where is the catch when you are coming to a city far away from Grande Prairie ?
A: The catch is that there should be enough horses to do in a 2-4 day visit.

Q: How much horses would that be ?
A: Roughly 20 horses for trimming a day and/or 7-10 Horses for shoeing a day .

Q: How much you charge for trimming / shoeing ?
A: We charge 60$  for a trim and 150$ for shoeing incl. shoes ( all 4 ).

Q: Huh, that are steep prices. Why do you charge more then some other Farriers ?
A: Since the Farrier get paid by the horse and not by the time he spend with the horse to get a trim done it is hard to determine a "price to work time" price level. Our experience shows that a lot of horses need more time to be done because of "difficulties" to trust that person who works on his hoof based on former experiences. We rather take our time with that horse to get his trust back than just add 20$ extra for being "difficult to work" on. Secondly the tools and the equipment that a farrier uses are quiet expensive . The average Farrier spends anywhere from 5.000-15.000$ to be setup for the job. Also a big factor is the education of a farrier. Courses, Clinics and other material can add up to 20.000$ a year. It is with a farrier the same as other trades - education, experience and qualification has it's price but in return you have a happy and sound horse :-) !

Q: What do you expect from the horses ?
A: We have to know about all "habits" of the horse(s) we work on. We won't refuse to work on a horse with "habits" , we just have to be prepared and make sure that it is save for both ( horse and farrier ).
Also check this http://www.gpfarrier.com/comical.html , it is funny but says it all !

Q: What kind of horses you do ?
A: We do them ALL ! No matter you have a Miniature, a Mule, a Donkey or a Draft Horse .... we service them all !!

Q: How about corrective shoeing ?
A: All Farriers that work for GP Farrier Service are certified from the Oklahoma State Horse Shoeing School or equal. We know how to correct problems on a horses hoof. We won't do work that requires consultation of a Vet first but together with the Vet we get your horse sound again :-) !

Q: What happens when you are not around and something happens ( shoe comes off , a crack appears etc. ) ?
A: We are planning of having a small clinic ( one day ) to show everybody who is interested how to fix smaller problems or just how to get around till the farrier comes again. A small fee of 120$ would apply.
If you are interested - just let us know !

Q: How do we pay ?
A: Easy answer .... however you want. We accept Cash, Debit, MasterCard and Visa.

We would also seek for a place we can use as a "base" when we are more then 200 KM away from Grande Prairie. Ideally a place with a little barn/shop to be out of the elements when the weather doesn't cooperate :-) and also to place our Trailer. We will pay for usage and utilities.

If you are interested please call us at 866-862-0022 7 days a week ! Please leave a message if we don't answer the phone and we call you back as soon as we can ( usually within 30 minutes ) .
