Josh Nichol has earned a place as one of Canada’s top horseman because of his uncanny ability to get to the root of a horse’s troubles.
An accomplished trainer and clinician, Josh has been helping his students overcome training difficulties and achieve their goals for over ten years. Josh trains horses at his family-owned Eagles Wing Ranch located North of Edmonton, Alberta. He also teaches numerous clinics, which allows him to assist students throughout Western Canada and parts of Ontario as well.
Josh has been featured in such publications as Horse-Canada, Western Horse Review, Equus and Horse Care. He has also recently released a DVD series called From the Inside Out, which features his groundwork techniques.
Josh grew up around horses and later had the opportunity to study under the tutelage of great horsemen and women such as Deb Bennett, Harry Whitney and Richard Caldwell. Josh has since evolved into a horseman who applies a thorough understanding of equine language to help advance relationships between riders and their horses.
“Most training issues start when brace within a horse is left unchecked. When high performance expectations and a rider’s own tension are added to the mix, many horses struggle,” says Josh. “My goal is to help every student understand their horse, understand themselves and then move softly forward in harmony.”
While obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree at Augustana University, Josh met his beautiful wife Cindy. Together they have been blessed with two children, Taylor-Rae and Jackson. Their business is one that is very much family run.
Josh holds clinics across western Canada at a variety of barns, helping people from multiple disciplines. Most participants find it helpful to contact the host to get a good idea of what each facility has to offer. Some barns are more focused on a specific discipline, which may serve your needs more precisely. It is also important to plan ahead as the clinics book up months in advance.
