PITCHFORK RANCHING QUARTER HORSES

I have been breeding Quarter Horses on a small scale for about twenty-five years. I have been expanding my breeding program for the past ten years or so. In my many years of cowboying, ranching and several years of competition cutting and roping, horses with versatility, soundness and cow sense have always stood out. The older I got, disposition became a major sought after quality. The first horse my dad bought me when I was ten years old was a dun with black feet and no white and although a good horse doesn't have a bad color, since then duns, grullo's and buckskins have always been my favorites. While disposition, versatility, conformation and pedigree are the number one qualities I breed for the majority of my horses do carry my favorite colours.

In the past few years I have done a lot of traveling, particularly in Texas and Oklahoma, looking for a new stallion. I literally looked at hundreds of stallions and their offspring. Two of the stallions that intrigued me the most due to their disposition, versatility, conformation and flawless pedigrees were Playgun and Mr Sun O Lena. I feel fortunate to have found two young stallions with both of these great horses up close in their pedigree and also showing the same qualities that attracted me to Playgun and Mr Sun O Lena. Having cowboyed on several big outfits, I am always attracted to the big ranches and have made several visits to the 6666 Ranch at Guthrie, Texas who stand Mr Sun O Lena. I visited with several of the cowboys there and they tell me the Mr Sun O Lena offspring make great ranch horses because of their cow sense and easy going dispositions yet have the "fire" when needed. Playgun too has such a wonderful quiet disposition yet put him or his offspring in front of a cow and we all know they'll get the job done and then some.

My broodmare band has been selected for the same qualities I've mentioned above, with some size and good bone. Have had many repeat customers over the years with many compliments as to how easy the horses are to train and their cow sense. When I had my own feedlot it was set up to do everything on horseback. One day one of my neighbors came over while I was checking pens and he said to me, do you do everything on horses? I said yes, the only reason I got cows is so I got something to do for my horses. That statement might have been stretching it a little but I do love good cow horses and would be pleased to show you my horses.

MILNE RANCHES

Home of Purebred Gelbvieh Cattle and Registered Quarter Horses

The Milne Ranch is located just south of Fairview Alberta along the banks of the mighty Peace River. This family operated ranch has been producing Gelbvieh seed stock since 1972 and has just been designated a Ranching Heritage Breeder by the American Quarter Horse Association.

The acres of natural grasslands have afforded ample opportunity to grow kids,cattle and cow horses. Harold and Bev's daughter Olivia who lives in Lamont is no longer involved in the day to day activities around the ranch but she always saves a few holidays to help at the fall shows like Northlands Farmfair International. Their son Thomas operates a Farrier Service using Fairview as his home base. The Ranch has always been a family effort.

The cattle are marketed through various breed association sponsored events and the Milne's Annual Better Beef Bull Sale the forth Saturday in March.

All the bulls are polled and are represented in both black and red hide color. The Milne's believe in a cowherd that is trouble free and easy to maintain. Sale cattle are selected on performance, conformation and calving ease. Their bulls are developed on a high protein ration that allows for maximum growth and a trouble free future. All bulls are semen tested prior to sale.

Horse sales are by private treaty.  While the focus is on competitive Team Roping horses the Milne Ranch horses have enjoyed many career path's from reiners to barrels to all around ranch horses.

KNOBLICK RANCHES

Years of ranching has lead us on a path of breeding horses, cattle and dogs that are versatile and trainable.
We required horses that could with stand long hours of work in the feed yard or pasture;
They needed the cattle sense to read a cow;
The strength to hold a bull on the end of a rope;
The endurance to go long hours working before they hit the hay bale;
The trainability and brains to do all this without a fight;
The kindness, to safely put a child or inexperienced rider on them.
Then on the weekends they need to have the control and class to be shown at a Cutting and Cow Horse Show and even better to have the talent to WIN.
Our horses are tested and true, they speak for themselves.
We believe we liken ourselves to the Chevy Truck Manufactures of the horse industry.
We are in the business to build horses like a ROCK.

POTTER CREEK RANCH

Welcome to the Potter Creek Ranch! We are located west of Rimbey(AB) on the Potter Creek. We are passionate about horses and the western lifestyle. It's what we do; It's what we enjoy!

At Potter Creek Ranch, we raise, train, and sell quality AQHA and APHA Horses.

We foal approximately 20 carefully selected mares each year and stand 2 stallions. We are serious about our stallion to mare combinations and our goal is an excellent individual with a "No Holes" pedigree. We do believe in mare power. Because of this, our mares are first broke to ride, enabling us to better predict the excellence and qualities of their offspring.

Young horses are handled extensively and are started under saddle in their second year and then turned out to grow and mature. In their third and fourth year they are rode many miles and are ready for sale. We also have mature (5yr+) finished horses for sale as well.

Our Quarter Horses are from well known cow horse bloodlines with a major focus on:
  • Excellent Minds
  • Super Conformation
  • Classy Looks

Our Paint Horses are of performance and race bloodlines, with a major focus also on:
  • Excellent Minds
  • Super Conformation
  • Outstanding Looks

SHINING BANK QUARTER HORSES

Located in the Heart of the Shining Bank Hills, we have put a program together to raise Quality Working Ranch Horses. We believe that a good Ranch Horse needs to  be agile with good size, great conformation as well as a good solid build with good feet and solid bone topped off with a willing trainable working mind and a pleasant disposition.

 Our horses are pretty enough for the show ring but hardy enough to work on the ranch. Broke horses are exposed to all aspects of Ranch life.
