THE MIGHTY MINI PROGRAM

The Mighty Mini Program - Horsemanship Lessons for Kids

Everyone gets into horses for a love of horses, but too often the fundamentals are skipped over in an effort to get to the RIDING part! All too often horses are just tolerating their human, instead of wanting to develop a true partnership with them. We want to help Minis and Children together, to create SAFE and WILLING partnerships.

Our mini herd is now ready to start teaching children and adults. They are ideal teachers for little people because their size makes them less intimidating, and they are just so much fun to be around!

Learn:
1. How to be SAFE around horses
2. Proper CARE
3. Horse Language 101
4. Effective LEADERSHIP Skills
5. How to build CONFIDENCE
6. OVERCOME FEAR around horses
7. How to build TRUST
8. How to read the BODY LANGUAGE of horses
9. CLEAR COMMUNICATION
10. How to BE SUCCESSFUL with your equine partner

Learn invaluable LEADERSHIP skills to be the leader your horse needs you to be. Weekly lessons start in July, and are offered to 8yrs and up. Parent and child lessons available. Mon/Fri afternoons. Located near Cochrane, AB. Call Birgitta  to book lessons today, or to set up a group, two-day intensive workshop.

After the program, there is the possibility of adopting your very own mini.

Please follow us on FB at The Pony Project to see the journeys of these ponies/minis from their arrival at the ranch, to their rehabilitation, and to their successful partnerships with children.

WILD ROSE ICELANDIC HORSE FARM

Come and try the icelandic horse! They are built with strong bone density so they can carry adults as well as children. They have 5 gaits instead of the usual three in other breeds. Walk, trot, canter, TOLT and PACE.

The tolt is a smooth running walk cherished for long rides in the mountains. The pace is a fun and exciting racing gait similar to what the standardbreds do. The Icelandic horse is a multi talented breed that can do anything. They make excellent jumpers because of their athletisism and snappy knees over jumps, the show horses have big movements for dressage, because of their backround of herding sheep many of them have a herding instinct, the quiet ones are fantastic for children and nervous riders(no typical pony attitude in them. They think more like a golden retriever) the higher energy types do extremely well in CTRs and endurance.

They average at around 13.2+hh but they can be in the 12hh range or up to 15hh range. They have dense winter coats for the cold temps(no need for blankets) and they have light shiney coats in the summer. They are well known for their thick manes and tails and their fantastic temperments.

We offer lessons, horses for sale, and Icelandic horse training. We have an indoor arena for lessons and have lesson horses to be ridden.

Come and try a lesson with an Icelandic Horse! You will love it! Lessons are $30 per lesson.

MCLEOD CREEK FARM

The Shetland pony herd at McLeod Farm was assembled in the early 1980’s from stock owned by
Vi Jacobsen of Olds - Alberta, Henderson’s of Mannville - Alberta and Jack Kerns of Edmonton, Alberta.

In 2006 we added stock from Bob & Anne MacKenzie at Hangin' Saw Pony Ranch of Grindrod BC. The few animals they had left were their selected and prized stock.

The owners of McLeod Creek Farm are proud to be able to continue the work done by these breeders in maintaining a unique Canadian Pony Breed.

Thank you and enjoy!
