Pajon Ponies was established in 1971 with the purchase of three
Section A mares. In 1976 Brenda Podolski (nee Olson) and I decided that
we wanted to breed Section B Welsh Ponies and that we would go to
Britain to visit as many farm’s as we could before starting our breeding
programs. That September we toured for three weeks, attended the Fayre
Oaks Sale and visited with seventeen of the foremost breeders. We saw
over one thousand ponies and came home with a definite idea of the type
of Section B that we wanted to raise.
In the fall of 1977 I flew to New York to view the three-year-old mare GlanNant Mite by the imported stallion, Cusop Sheriff.
Mite had been shown at the Devon Horse Show and was Reserve Junior
Champion. Mite arrived in November of that year, in foal to Talybont Shawn.
Mite truly founded a destiny at Pajon Ponies. Not only was she shown to
many Championships, including Supreme Champion at open horse shows.
She had 13 foals for us, many who have gone on as foundation mares for
other breeders. The colts have been very successful in Welsh breeding
programs and as Hunter ponies. She was bred to *Rosedale Royal Flare, *Rosedale El-Senor, Farnley Bellringer and *Pendock Persues.
Pajon Ponies currently has one of her daughters, two granddaughters,
two great granddaughters and three colts who are either grandsons or
great grandsons.
In 1977 Alvesta Farm and Pajon Ponies purchased the ten year old stallion Farnley Bellringer (x *Downland Drummer Boy), Bellringer has had a major influence on both of these farms.
In 1981, after touring Britain again, the decision was made to purchased the yearling colt *Rosedale Royal Flare (Varndell Right Royal x Downland Flare).
After receiving his stallion license as a two year old, Flare arrived
at Pajon Ponies where, other than three trips to the USA to stand at
stud, he has resided ever since. Flare has been a wonderful sire and
currently is the sire or grandsire of ten of our ponies.
