Lesley is a cowgirl’s “cowgirl” and grew up on a cattle operation North of Ponoka; she has been working with livestock since she can remember; it is a common saying in her family that she was “born on a horse chasing a cow”. She was actively involved in little britches, local equestrian groups, Battle River High School Rodeo and College rodeo to name a few.
She has participated in gymkhana, rodeo, cattle sorting, cattle pennings, pole bending and of course barrel racing, enjoying the teachings of Dena Kirkpatrick, Judy Myllmaki, Ed Wright, Pat Parelli, Buck Brannaman.
Lesley’s life-long focus has been working with horses & people; she first started doing clinics and giving riding lessons to kids in the late 90′s; the first clinic she ever instructed was a goat tying and pole bending clinic; she started her first horse at the age of 16; He was a 16 hh standard bred & quarter horse cross that she had raised at the feedlot & she fondly called him ‘Hollywood’; this experience secured Lesley’s passion for working with race horses and now her greatest passion is working with “problem horses & their owners using a vast array of natural horsemanship techniques to bring them to a more balanced existence;
Lesley uses a blend of cowgirl smarts, common sense, intuition and natural horsemanship methods to work the horses through obstacle type courses & activities; these courses challenge the horse in many different ways. Using horsemanship, equine yoga and obstacles such as teeter totters, water obstacles, bridges, cavalettis, milk jug drags, flags, curtains etc. it is inspiring for her to watch the horse grow mentally daily and note how both horse & rider begin to consider the possibilities of doing things a different more balanced way. When it comes to problem solving with horses clients fondly call her a “Jill of all trades & master of some”.
